The University of Granada expressed its sorrow this Tuesday following the news of the death of José Carlos Gómez Villamandos. Villamandos held the position of counselor of University, Research and Innovation for the Junta de Andalucía, and previously served as rector of the University of Córdoba and president of Crue.

The rector of the UGR, Pedro Mercado, praised Gómez Villamandos' career, highlighting "his public service and his extraordinary dedication to university management, research, and knowledge in various institutional spheres."

The Granada academic institution has conveyed its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased counselor.
