The University of Granada is heading the research project 'Procole', an initiative aimed at boosting reading comprehension among Primary Education students. This skill is crucial for academic success and social integration, especially given international data indicating significant difficulties in 25% of students.
The project addresses the need to tackle deficiencies in reading comprehension, a skill that impacts all curriculum areas and personal development. The intervention program 'Compréndeme' will focus on students in third and fourth grade of Primary Education, working on four key pillars: inference-making ability, vocabulary development, understanding text structure, and metacognition.
A distinctive feature of 'Procole' is its collaborative approach, integrating active participation from teachers in the program's development and evaluation. The research team, led by professors Gracia Jiménez and Nuria Calet, will train and support teachers in applying the designed strategies.
The project also promotes open science, ensuring that the generated knowledge is accessible to the entire educational community. Upon completion of the research, the 'Compréndeme' program will be available in open access, allowing its implementation in schools across Spain and fostering evidence-based educational innovation.
