The event celebrated academic achievement, with Ana Mancera, the only student to achieve a perfect score of 14 in Andalusia's Selectividad, sharing her experience. The ceremony took place at the Hospital Real, an emblematic venue of the University of Granada.
Mancera, who studied at Jardín de la Reina and IES Mariana Pineda, prepared her speech in just a few hours. She expressed gratitude for the support from her family, teachers, and friends during a "very difficult year" in her second year of Bachillerato. She was accompanied by her loved ones and university and educational authorities.
“"I am more than just a grade."
The young student emphasized the importance of the trust she received and how, despite an initial grading error in Philosophy (a 2.5 she appealed to achieve a 10), her trajectory and effort were recognized. She highlighted the quality of public education and the lasting impact of her teachers from primary school onwards.
Prior to Mancera, three other distinguished students spoke: Íñigo Goitia, Adrián Tejedor, and Andrés Godoy. These four students, representing around thirty high-achieving young individuals, are on the verge of starting their university studies after a well-deserved summer break.
The rector of the University of Granada, Pedro Mercado, presided over the ceremony and encouraged the students to pursue their futures, calling them "the future." Also in attendance were the territorial delegate for Educational Development, María José Martín; the City Council's Education Councilor, Encarnación González; and the Vice-Rector for Students, Juan Luis Benítez, among other officials.
