Last year, the average prevalence of temporary incapacity due to common contingencies, unrelated to the professional sphere, stood at 43.4 employees per thousand protected individuals in Granada. This figure represents a significant increase of more than twenty points compared to 2015, when 23.5 were registered, and approaches the peak of 43.5 reached in 2023.
Despite this increase, Granada's provisional figures remain below the Andalusian regional average (46.1), with only Córdoba (42.2) and Jaén (30.6) showing lower prevalence. Conversely, Seville (52.9) and Huelva (54.6) present the highest rates in the region.
In absolute terms, as of December 2025, there were 14,465 active sick leave processes in Granada, an increase compared to 13,640 the previous year and 12,446 in 2022. This upward trend has led to a doubling of the number of employees on sick leave in the province over the past two decades.
“"This increase is not due to fraudulent use of the system, but rather reflects the need for greater healthcare investment to match the European average."
The average duration of sick leave in the province of Granada is another critical point, reaching 62.79 days, well above the national average of 42.29 days. Union sources attribute this prolongation to the saturation of the public health system, with long waiting lists for specialists and diagnostic tests.
“"The figures recorded in the province dismantle the business narrative and highlight the shortcomings of the healthcare and preventive system."
In addition to sick leave, workplace accidents have also increased in Granada. In 2025, 9,291 accidents occurred during working hours, representing a 2% year-on-year increase. Unions warn of a worrying surge in fatal accidents, which rose by 43.75% in the first two months of 2026 compared to the same period last year.
