The initiative, covering an area of 90,000 square meters, was presented at a forum organized by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda. The project aims to integrate the construction of new social housing with the improvement of public spaces and the social cohesion of the area.
Since its inception in 2004, the intervention has focused on ensuring the permanence of original residents through a comprehensive transformation process. The most recent phase has resulted in the delivery of 122 new social housing units, 59 of which were allocated to rehousing local residents, alongside the creation of new green areas and community spaces.
The total investment for this stage amounts to 13.29 million euros, funded through collaboration between Granada City Council, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the Government of Spain. The local council has contributed nearly half of this budget to drive physical renovation and social support for the affected families.
The plan includes a significant increase in green spaces, which will expand from 10,900 to 24,200 square meters. Beyond construction, the program incorporates socio-economic support measures and community organization to ensure that environmental improvements lead to a better quality of life for the 4,500 residents directly impacted by the project.
