The Orquesta Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, led by the renowned Riccardo Muti, will make its debut at the Granada Festival this Sunday at 10:00 PM in the Palace of Charles V. This event marks the Italian maestro's first appearance in the city and coincides with the festival's 75th anniversary.
Muti, who has mentored the ensemble since its founding in 2004, has curated a program that intertwines opera and symphonic music. The repertoire features works by Verdi, including the overture to Nabucco and ballet pieces from I vespri siciliani, alongside the second suite from Falla's The Three-Cornered Hat, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the composer from Cádiz. The evening will conclude with Ravel's monumental Boléro.
“"The overture of Nabucco, in its symphonic dimension, and the ballet pages that under the designation Le quattro stagioni form the second scene of the third act of the opera I vespri siciliani, will introduce us fully and from different perspectives into the music of Giuseppe Verdi."
The concert, poised to be a historic moment for the festival, is supported by the Embassy of Italy in Spain and the "la Caixa" Foundation.
In parallel, the festival's extension program, FEX, will host other performances. At the Municipal Theatre of Alhendín, Jóvenes-en-Danza will present Interferencia and La creación. Additionally, in the Plaza de las Pasiegas, the Festival Band and the Granada Municipal Band will conclude the workshop Arquitecturas de viento.
