The Granada City Council has finalized the rehabilitation of the Salón Library, bringing back to life one of the most iconic buildings on the Paseo del Salón. After years of closure, the library is once again a cultural hub for the people of Granada.
The library had been closed since 2023 due to serious structural issues discovered during energy efficiency upgrades. Humidity, cracks, and significant damage to the roof and internal structure were found, compromising the building's stability and the safety of users and staff.
The intervention involved replacing the main roof's supporting structure with a new metallic solution, alongside waterproofing, improved insulation, restoration of original tiles, and repair of eaves and corbels to preserve the building's characteristic appearance.
Internally, facilities, ventilation, lighting, and general finishes have been modernized to adapt the space for its function as a public library. To mark the reopening, the City Council unveiled a commemorative plaque naming the library after writer Mariluz Escribano, honoring her significant contribution to contemporary Andalusian literature and culture.
