The political formation has registered a Non-Legislative Proposal (PNL) in the lower house to demand a coordination plan with other entities that guarantees transport alternatives. This initiative adds to motions already promoted by the party in the Provincial Council and the Granada City Council.
According to the party's leadership in Granada, the airport's closure for approximately 21 days in a key month like May will have a very negative impact on Granada's economy, especially in sectors such as tourism, hospitality, commerce, and transport. They have warned that Granada cannot afford to lose connectivity during one of the months with the highest tourist activity and visitor influx without an alternative plan.
“"Granada cannot afford to lose connectivity during one of the months with the highest tourist activity, with numerous cultural events and a high influx of visitors without an alternative plan."
The PNL urges the Executive to re-evaluate the works' execution period to minimize their impact and to implement a coordination plan with entities such as Renfe. It also proposes the creation of a dialogue table with the Provincial Council of Granada and the Provincial Federation of Municipalities and Provinces to analyze the economic impact and establish possible compensatory measures.
For its part, Aena has defended that the 21-day closure is the most efficient solution, after studying several options. Although the bulk of the intervention will be carried out at night, there are critical areas that require the suspension of operations. The choice of May 2027 is due to seeking good weather to guarantee the quality of the work, and they assure that the impact will be similar to any other date due to the airport's low seasonality index.
