The disturbances began shortly before 8:00 PM in the vicinity of Plaza de las Pasiegas, where Vox was holding its central pre-campaign event in Granada. Prominent party figures, including Manuel Gavira, candidate for the Presidency of the Junta, and Beatriz Sánchez, candidate for Granada, participated in the event.
The Vox rally was scheduled for 7:30 PM, coinciding with a demonstration called by Antifascist Action in the same square. However, a police cordon prevented the demonstrators from accessing beyond Pie de la Torre street, which leads to Las Pasiegas.
“"An “electoral crime” was being committed, and he accused the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Government Delegation of “consenting” to the concentration that “prevented” them from holding their event."
The situation became more tense with the arrival of Abascal, who from the podium denounced what he considered an “electoral crime.” The Vox leader accused the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, and the Government Delegation of allowing the concentration that, according to him, hindered their event. Subsequently, Abascal urged attendees to “advance” towards the street where the antifascists were gathered with the intention of “expelling them.”
This call led to pushes and moments of great tension, culminating in charges by the National Police against the antifascist demonstrators. They were eventually cleared to San Jerónimo street, next to the Cathedral. Throughout the rally, the antifascists remained gathered on Oficios street, under a strong police presence.
