The town celebrated the ‘Fiesta de las Mozuelas’, an event that commemorates a popular uprising against the occupying French troops. Streets were filled with street plays performed by children and professional actors, while local shops adorned themselves in period costumes and set up a special market.
According to legend, the festival's name comes from a group of young women who bravely retrieved a holy chalice stolen by French troops in 1812. The celebration aims to revive this historical episode and strengthen local identity.
“"It really feels like you’re in 1812. This tradition really brings the town to life – and it is such a pleasure to see children perform."
The Councillor for Culture, Cristina Lopez Nuñez, highlighted the historical immersion offered by the event and the pleasure of seeing the younger generation participate in the tradition.
