The Junta de Andalucía has presented the book on the Los Mondragones Archaeological Complex, highlighting it as a model of coexistence between historical heritage preservation and urban development in Granada.

The Junta de Andalucía has championed the Los Mondragones Archaeological Complex in Granada as an "example of coexistence" between heritage conservation and the construction of the city of the future. The Minister of Housing, Youth and Territorial Planning, Rocío Díaz, presented the guide 'The Los Mondragones Archaeological Complex. Guide to the northwestern suburb of Florentia Iliberritana', authored by archaeologists Ángel Rodríguez and Macarena Bustamante.
Díaz stated that Los Mondragones is "much more than an archaeological site", but rather "an authentic bridge between eras", allowing an understanding of life in ancient Florentia Iliberritana nearly 2,000 years ago. She emphasized that the recovery of this historical enclave is proceeding in parallel with a significant residential project.
Excavations have uncovered streets, dwellings, thermal baths, and facilities for oil and wine production, reflecting the economic and social activity of the period. The minister stressed that the project demonstrates the compatibility and mutual reinforcement between heritage conservation and urban development, addressing the need for housing access in Granada.
The urban transformation of the former barracks will allow for the construction of 555 homes, of which 362 will be protected housing. These works are being carried out on land located between the neighborhoods of Doctores and La Cruz. AVRA's plots will be allocated for 328 protected homes, municipal plots for 34 protected homes, and Metrovacesa's plots for 193 free-market homes.
The Minister congratulated the publication's authors for making scientific research accessible, helping Granadans better understand their history and reinforcing the collective commitment to preserving the legacy received from past generations. The mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, described the work as "excellent news" that strengthens the city's identity and its bid for European Capital of Culture 2031, announcing that the site's musealization works will soon commence.
