Queen Sofía has confirmed her attendance at the inaugural concert of the 75th edition of the Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. The event will take place on Friday, June 12th, at the Palacio de Carlos V, where maestro Zubin Mehta will conduct the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in a Mozart-focused program.
Furthermore, the mother of Felipe VI, who serves as the festival's honorary president, will preside over a charity flamenco ballet gala on Saturday, June 13th, at the Teatro del Generalife. This gala, directed by Patricia Guerrero, celebrates the festival's 75th anniversary. Tickets for both performances are already sold out.
Queen Sofía has attended numerous editions of the festival throughout its history, with her first visit dating back to 1968.
Queen Sofía's connection with the Granada festival dates back to 1968, when she attended the opening as a princess. Since then, she has witnessed memorable performances, including concerts by conductors such as Herbert Von Karajan and orchestras like the Berlin Philharmonic. In subsequent editions, she has participated in sacred music concerts and charity galas, demonstrating continuous support for the cultural event.
The festival, running from June 11th to July 12th, marks its 75th anniversary with special events. Highlights include the debut of composer Ludovico Einaudi at the Teatro del Generalife and a grand finale performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at the Castillo de La Calahorra, conducted by Donato Renzetti.
