The Granada Lyric Season 2025/2026 will culminate with the performance of the operetta Katiuska, the Russian Woman, an emblematic work by Pablo Sorozábal, to be staged at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium.

The city of Granada is preparing for a distinguished evening of music and lyric theater with the staging of Katiuska, the Russian Woman. This celebrated two-act operetta, composed by Pablo Sorozábal, will arrive at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium on May 16 at 8:00 PM, officially closing the Granada Lyric Season 2025/2026. The event is organized by Juventudes Musicales Granada in collaboration with the City Council and the Granada Opera Choir.

"It is an important way to conclude such a great and well-designed season as the one experienced at the Manuel de Falla Auditorium, with a work brought by Juventudes Musicales that demonstrates Granada's commitment to becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2031."

the Culture Councilor
The work, originally premiered in 1931, represented Sorozábal's first major success and a turning point in the evolution of contemporary Spanish zarzuela. Set in revolutionary Russia after the fall of tsarism, Katiuska tells an intense story of love, survival, and loyalty amidst a turbulent historical context, blending lyricism, dramatic emotion, and popular scenes of great theatrical force.
The production will feature a prominent cast, including soprano Inés Lorans in the title role of Katiuska, tenor Daniele Terenzi as Pedro Stakof, and Alejandro del Cerro playing Prince Sergio. The cast is completed by Abraham García, Teresa Villena, David Villalba, Enrique García, Leticia Rodríguez, and Kika Borrego. Additionally, the Granada Opera Choir, under the direction of Pablo Guerrero, and the Orquesta Filarmonía Granada, directed by Ricardo J. Espigares, with Guillermo G. Maldonado as assistant musical director, will participate.
This performance will offer a new opportunity for the Granada public to appreciate the relevance and richness of Spanish lyric theater, establishing itself as one of the most important cultural events of spring in Granada. The second Granada Lyric Season has successfully established a stable program dedicated to opera, zarzuela, and vocal recitals, expanding both the offerings and the cultural venues of the city.
