The work, which unfolds across a dual timeline, features protagonists Tom and Martín, whose experiences alternate between World War II and the present. The novel, published under the Tierra de nadie imprint, originated from the author's personal need to express his thoughts twelve years ago, in 2014.
What began as a project to share with family and friends evolved into a professional publication. Saulo Ruiz, upon reviewing the manuscript, suggested its publication, which led to a significant reduction in content to meet the desired length.
The plot of ‘Te están esperando’ centers on Tom, a soldier on the eve of the Normandy landings, entangled in a mysterious crime. Concurrently, Martín, a national police officer, experiences a story of lust, both narratives linked by the concept of 'white fire,' an element inspired by the author's fascination with the mystery genre.
Ortegón emphasizes the significant historical research undertaken to document settings, attire, period characters, and weaponry, dedicating up to three months to researching certain chapters. He acknowledges that the greatest surprise has been the fluidity of writing, which he describes as a personal channeling process.
The author's main challenge was creating fictional characters, diverging from his journalistic role of reporting real events. The complexity of portraying emotions like melancholy or euphoria presented a significant hurdle, and according to readers, it is one of the book's most accomplished aspects.
The novel also reflects Ortegón's passion for quality cinema, being narrated in a cinematic style. The positive initial reception, which he did not anticipate, has been evident through his participation in literary fairs in cities such as Granada, Gijón, and Castellón.
Ortegón is currently working on the continuation of this story, planning a trilogy. The second book, titled ‘El dragón rojo’, already has two chapters written, leaving unresolved plot points from the first installment.
