The first intervention occurred early in the morning, around 5:50 AM, following an alert about a 55-year-old fisherman who fell from a cliff near Rijana Beach. Due to the challenging terrain, GREIM specialists and the Civil Guard's air unit from Granada were deployed. The injured individual was airlifted to the hospital after receiving initial treatment for severe injuries.
Hours later, at approximately 11:40 AM, a new alert was received concerning a pair of mountaineers, aged 49 and 55, who were stranded in the Veleta gorge. The area presented extreme conditions due to unstable ice and potential rockfalls. Rescue teams operated in a very difficult environment, successfully descending both mountaineers. During the operation, an agent experienced a minor incident due to a small avalanche, with no serious consequences. The pair was evacuated by helicopter to the Virgen de las Nieves area.
The third incident, reported at 2:25 PM, involved a 59-year-old person trapped while canyoning in the Torrente River, in Nigüelas. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, who managed to extract the individual from a siphon, the person had already passed away.
The demanding day concluded with a fourth rescue at 4:30 PM, when four mountaineers became stuck on a ridge of the Tajos de la Virgen. Two GREIM specialists were transported by helicopter to the location, from where they coordinated the evacuation in two flights. All four individuals were rescued in good condition and also transported to the Virgen de las Nieves.
