The first incident occurred around 5:50 AM, following an alert about a 55-year-old fisherman who had fallen down a cliff near Rijana beach. The difficult access required the intervention of specialists from the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) and the Air Unit (UAER) of the Civil Guard. The victim was evacuated by helicopter to the Health Technology Park Hospital in Granada due to severe injuries.
Later, at 11:40 AM, a new alert was received regarding a pair of alpinists, a 49-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man, who were trapped in the Veleta gully, an unstable area prone to ice and rockfalls. GREIM agents and the UAER crew performed a delicate partial landing of the aircraft in precarious snow conditions. Rescuers had to traverse a slope with ice and unstable snow, facing risks of falling from 120-meter cliffs and deep crevasses. After securing an anchor point, both alpinists were lowered, although one rescuer was caught by an avalanche of snow and ice, temporarily suspended by his self-belay. The operation concluded at 3:15 PM in the Virgen de las Nieves area.
A third call, received at 2:25 PM, reported a 59-year-old person trapped during canyoning in the Torrente river, within the municipality of Nigüelas. Despite the rapid intervention of GREIM and UAER specialists to extract the individual from the canyon's siphon, the person was already deceased.
Finally, at 4:30 PM, a last alert indicated that four mountaineers, aged between 32 and 42, were stranded on a ridge in the Tajos de la Virgen area of Sierra Nevada, unable to proceed on their own. Two GREIM specialists, who were assisting in the Nigüelas rescue, were transported by UAER aircraft to the location. After contacting the mountaineers, they were evacuated in two flights, with two individuals accompanying each mountain specialist. All four were safely transported to the Virgen de las Nieves area.
