Federico García Lorca Airport in Granada will expand its destination offerings with the reintroduction of direct flights to London and Valencia. The decision follows the submission of proposals by various airlines at the Provincial Council's contracting board meeting last Wednesday.
Provincial Council technicians will now analyze the documentation submitted for these routes, which were put out to tender. Subsequently, a new contracting board will select the company that will operate the flights.
In April, the governing council of the Granada Provincial Council's Tourism Board approved a budget of 427,533 euros to establish two national routes (to Bilbao and Valencia) and two international routes (to the United Kingdom and Poland). For the connections to Valencia and Bilbao, two companies have submitted offers, which will allow for the resumption of flights to the Levante region and the restoration of the connection to Bilbao, operational until April.
Furthermore, one airline has submitted a bid for the Granada-London route. However, no proposals were received to operate the flight to Poland, meaning this destination is currently discarded.
The strategy of the Granada Provincial Council to establish these flights is based on the co-marketing model, which includes joint promotional actions at both origin and destination. This approach has already facilitated the creation of routes to Nantes, operational since December, and to Porto, set to begin in November.
