Three years ahead of the electoral date, the official schedule for the 2027 municipal elections in Granada has been set: Sunday, May 23. This date, mandated by law for the fourth Sunday of May, places the day of reflection on Saturday, May 22, the day of the Corpus fair's lighting ceremony, and the end of the electoral campaign on Friday, May 21. The official campaign will commence on Friday, May 7, following the Cruces festivities.
The current mayor, Marifrán Carazo (PP), who holds an absolute majority since 2023, faces the final year of her term. Recent regional election results suggest a potential future scenario where the PP could maintain its absolute majority, albeit with a slight reduction in councilors, while the PSOE would experience a significant decline, and Vox might increase its representation. Parties such as Adelante Andalucía and Por Andalucía, as well as Ciudadanos, are also evaluating their participation.
The main political parties are already preparing the ground for the electoral contest. The PP anticipates the continuity of Marifrán Carazo as its candidate, while the PSOE is bracing for internal primaries to define its new team and candidate, with Raquel Ruz as a potential contender. Vox is in a phase of evaluating candidacies, considering the potential compatibility of roles for its representatives.
The pre-campaign is intensifying from now on, with the governing party highlighting its management and the opposition parties seeking to expose weaknesses. Commissions and plenary sessions are poised to become political battlegrounds, especially from September onwards, when candidate and electoral list definitions are expected.
