This project, involving an investment of 335,866 euros, aims to modernize and expand the space, making it more suitable for the daily needs of families. The plan includes replacing the current children's area, which features only one play element, with a more comprehensive and varied space designed for different age groups.
The primary goal is to establish an accessible play environment for all, incorporating inclusive elements that allow children with diverse abilities to use it, thereby enhancing the district's facilities. The intervention will completely reorganize the over 400 square meters area, currently covered with artificial grass, by removing existing paving and elements to install a larger and better-adapted play zone.
Special consideration has been given to the site's location above an underground car park, which requires specific base preparation and a prior analysis of the support structure. The new park will feature a wide array of elements, including a large whale-shaped structure as the main attraction, a dolphin, a fish-shaped spring rider, a rotating game, a small boat, and a swing area with various types of seats, including a basket swing and an adapted inclusive chair. Additionally, a larger combined play structure, named “fishing village,” will be added for more dynamic use.
The area will be completed with a continuous shock-absorbing rubber pavement, which will not only improve safety but also allow for the integration of colors and games directly into the ground, making the space more appealing. The existing play equipment will be relocated to another site for continued use.
This initiative is part of the Municipal Works Plan 2024-2027, which allocates nearly 40 million euros to over 60 projects across all city districts. The City Council continues to promote interventions aimed at creating more everyday spaces for residents. A recent example is the pedestrianization and creation of a new children's area at the intersection of López Mezquita and Sol streets, with the same objective of offering more options for families and moving towards a city designed for daily life.
