The Granada City Council has reinforced its municipal and technical teams to address the consequences of the earthquake registered on the morning of August 15th, managing over 800 inspection requests.

Following the earthquake that occurred on the morning of August 15th, the Granada City Council maintains a deployment to manage the incidents. The Local Police have received 225 calls, 153 of which relate to over 800 building inspection requests.
Initial assessments indicate that the load-bearing structure of the vast majority of inspected buildings responded adequately to the seismic movement. The detected damage primarily corresponds to non-structural elements, such as cracks and fissures in plasterwork or false ceilings, leading Mayor Marifrán Carazo to issue a "message of calm" to citizens while urging prudence.
The Service for Prevention, Extinction of Fires and Rescue (SPEIS) managed approximately 400 requests between 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM on August 15th, carrying out 122 interventions. Of these, 106 were focused on the Metropolitan Area, particularly in Ogíjares, and the rest in the capital, especially in the Southern zone. Evacuations occurred in homes on Marqués de Mondéjar and Alhamar streets, as well as in Ogíjares.
Between 6:00 PM on August 15th and 8:00 AM on August 16th, the Fire Department managed 150 further requests and carried out 32 additional interventions, 26 in the Southern zone of Granada and six in the Metropolitan Area. The cumulative balance reaches 550 requests and 154 inspections.
Technicians are paying special attention to traditional buildings with load-bearing brick walls. The Zaidín area, particularly the homes in Santa Adela, has been one of the most affected, with older buildings where the seismic effects have been more visible.
Emergency services remind the public that a crack does not necessarily compromise a building's stability, but they recommend reporting any significant deformations, structural damage, or detachments to the relevant services for assessment.
