The Granada City Council has allocated 1.3 million euros to the improvement and modernization of some twenty municipal sports facilities, an investment that has sevenfold increased the one made in the previous term.

The Granada City Council has invested 1.3 million euros in the improvement and modernization of 25 municipal sports facilities during the current term. This figure represents a significant increase compared to the 195,896.27 euros invested in the previous four years, as reported by the Council.
The mayor, Marifrán Carazo, highlighted that this commitment to sports aims to recover, improve, and modernize spaces for sports practice, making them more dignified, accessible, and safe for the citizens of Granada. The investment translates into actions on football fields, multi-sport courts, swimming pools, and other spaces, including the renovation of turf, lighting, and pavements.
Among the highest-value investments are the renovation of the artificial turf at the football field of Cerrillo de Maracena (187,091.59 euros) and San Francisco Javier (175,000 euros), as well as improvements to the facilities at Parque Nueva Granada (139,105.37 euros) and the rehabilitation of multi-sport courts in Molino Nuevo (120,000 euros).
Additionally, funds have been allocated to the Bola de Oro swimming pool (118,864.58 euros for the dehumidifier), football fields such as Paquillo Fernández and Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente (100,000 euros each), and improvements in La Argentinita, Parque de las Infantas, El Fargue, Núñez Blanca, Casería de Montijo, Aynadamar, and Francisco Dalmau.
The program is complemented by 'Conéctate al Deporte' (Connect to Sport), which will mobilize 425,000 euros through public-private collaboration to create and recover sports spaces in streets and parks. This initiative aims to transform urban areas into outdoor facilities, especially for young people, promoting healthy alternatives to sedentary leisure.
Actions already promoted within 'Conéctate al Deporte' include spaces in Tico Medina Park, Miguel Ríos Park, Bola de Oro, Cerrillo de Maracena, and the former Botellódromo, recovered for sports and community activities with an investment of 90,000 euros.
New courts are planned after the summer in collaboration with entities such as the Chamber of Commerce, Ebone, and Prodesur, as well as in Cruz de Lagos (with Emasagra) and in La Encina and Campoverde. The program also includes the development of an application to organize citizen participation.
The mayor has defended sports as an investment in health, education, inclusion, and social cohesion, assuring that the objective is for Granada to be a more active and healthy city, with facilities befitting its residents and clubs.
