The city of Granada is preparing to host the Base and Absolute Spanish Championships of Acrobatic Gymnastics between this Wednesday and Sunday. The event will bring together nearly 1,000 athletes of all categories, from U13 to senior, from more than 50 clubs across Spain.
The official presentation was attended by Eric Escobedo, Deputy for Sports and Sports Facilities; David Rodríguez, delegate for Tourism, Culture, and Sport of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Granada; Covadonga Menéndez, technical secretary of the Spanish Gymnastics Federation; and Elena Ramírez, delegate of the Andalusian Gymnastics Federation.
Eric Escobedo highlighted the province's consolidation as a national benchmark for organizing top-level sports events, calling the competition an opportunity to position Granada on the national sports map and an example of how sport can be a spectacle.
For his part, David Rodríguez emphasized that the championship represents effort, dedication, and the values of sport, as well as being an occasion to promote acrobatic gymnastics and project the city as a host for major sporting events. The Regional Government has reinforced its support through Andalucía AcroSport.
Covadonga Menéndez expressed her gratitude for holding this event in Granada, the main annual event of the discipline alongside the National Base Championship. She noted that this is the third time the Spanish Gymnastics Federation has held this championship in Andalusia, a region with high-level facilities.
The competition will be complemented by the Andalucía Cup Acro Gymnastics Open, an international championship promoted by the Andalusian Gymnastics Federation that will attract clubs from various autonomous communities and countries, along with family and fans.
The Royal Spanish Gymnastics Federation has once again chosen Granada as the venue, recognizing the province's role in the development of this discipline in Spain. Granada is considered one of the cradles of national acrobatic gymnastics, contributing gymnasts to the Spanish National Team.
