The 'Ciencia al Fresquito primavera' program, promoted by the Fundación Descubre and the Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación de la Junta de Andalucía, has arrived in Granada with the goal of fostering scientific dissemination among social groups and those at risk of exclusion. The activity, named 'Eclipse Ambassadors', also benefits from the collaboration of the Fundación 'la Caixa' through Caixabank, and the Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
The event took place at the Mirador de San Miguel Alto in the capital of Granada, with the participation of the Escuela Hogar Madre Teresa and the Asociación ALFA Almanjáyar, thanks to Caixabank volunteers. Members of the Sociedad Astronómica Granadina, as part of the RADA, were responsible for familiarizing attendees with the phenomenon of solar eclipses, a particularly relevant topic given the three eclipses (two total and one annular) that will be visible in Spain in the coming years.
During the session, the mechanisms of eclipses, the necessary conditions for their occurrence, and the characteristics of upcoming events visible in Spain, including the best viewing locations, were explained in an interactive and visual manner. Rigorous guidelines on eye safety measures, such as the use of appropriate equipment and certified observation materials, were also provided.
The activity concluded with a practical solar observation, utilizing various methods including basic projections, specialized glasses and filters, specific solar telescopes, generic telescopes with suitable filters, and direct solar projections using computer-based tools. The initiative received support from the Ayuntamiento de Granada and Granada 2031.
