The initiative, progressively executed since April 20th along a North-South axis, encompassed 318 municipal lots and 167 soft-surface areas across the city. This preventive measure is crucial for reducing fire risk, enhancing citizen safety, and maintaining public spaces.
The Granada Council highlighted that the campaign took place during a year with extraordinary vegetation growth due to abundant winter and spring rains. Mayor Marifrán Carazo framed this action within the municipal strategy to improve the city's safety, cleanliness, and image, noting that the new service contract has bolstered human and material resources.
"We have anticipated the arrival of higher temperatures to minimize risks and offer residents safer, better-maintained environments," stated the mayor, emphasizing the importance of prevention. Planning prioritized plots with higher potential risk, particularly those near residential areas and with significant vegetation accumulation, where work is largely complete.
The work involved a team of 20 operators and enhanced technical equipment, including four tractors, a chain-driven rotary mower, a power tiller, and fifteen manual intervention teams. The methodology involved sequential intervention, using heavy machinery for initial clearing and operators for finishing and profiling tasks.
Two specific areas traditionally requiring attention in August have been identified: Avenida de Andalucía (between Parque Almunia and the roundabout near Mulhacén school) and the urban stretch of the Monachil River, which will be cleared during periods of minimal flow. These efforts complement other public space improvements this summer, such as graffiti removal and container cleaning.
