On April 18, Granada will delve into its rich history to mark the International Day for Monuments and Sites. This year, the main focus of the celebrations will be the Albaicín, one of the city's most emblematic enclaves, declared a World Heritage Site.
The Albaicín Granada Agency has designed a program of activities open to the public, aiming to bring historical heritage closer to both residents and tourists. This initiative also underscores the importance of culture in Granada's bid for European Capital of Culture 2031.
“"This celebration represents an opportunity to place heritage at the center of the city's cultural life, emphasizing the value of historical legacy as one of the pillars of Granada's cultural project."
The program for April 18 includes three main activities combining dissemination, cultural experience, and citizen participation. The first, 'The gardens of the Albaicín. Between water and landscape', is a guided tour starting at 10:00 AM from the Real Chancillería de Granada, in Plaza Nueva, exploring the role of water in the district's formation.
At 12:30 PM, families can enjoy 'The legends of the Albaicín', a storytelling session that will also depart from the same point and tour the Carrera del Darro, bringing intangible heritage to younger audiences. In the afternoon, at 6:00 PM, the guided tour 'The soul of Granada' will offer an itinerary through the historical evolution of the Albaicín and the cultures that have shaped it. All activities require prior registration through the Albaicín Agency website.
