The premises of Sagrado Corazón School in Granada were transformed this Wednesday into a vibrant setting, transporting its visitors directly to J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. What is usually an educational center became a space where literature came to life, ceasing to be a subject of study and becoming an immersive experience.
Throughout the day, the hallways and classrooms were filled with hobbits, elves, and dwarves, the result of two months of intense collaborative work between teachers, students, and families. This joint effort had a clear objective: to turn reading into a shared, tangible, and exciting experience, inspired by The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings saga.
“"If you don't shut up… you won't pass."
The climax of the event came when the school courtyard, which until then had been bustling with activity, fell silent. Over a thousand people, including students, teachers, former students, and authorities such as the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, and the delegate of the Junta in Granada, Antonio Granados, gathered for an act as simple as it was significant: reading together.
Guided by the voice of dubbing actor Miguel Ángel Jenner, the entire school united in a single voice, reading in unison. This moment of concentration and emotion, without costumes or characters, generated a clear sense of being part of something unique, culminating in a world record certified by a notary.
Beyond the numbers and recognition, the main message of the event was the demonstration that reading has the power to unite, excite, and transform. On its 120th anniversary, Sagrado Corazón School has not only broken a record but has reaffirmed that great achievements are reached when many decide to walk together, as in Tolkien's stories.
