The Granada City Council is launching the second edition of 'Granada de Tiendas' this Friday, an initiative that merges commerce, culture, and art to revitalize the city center and support local businesses.
The program, designed for all audiences, will be distributed across various points in central Granada, with the primary goal of creating a festive atmosphere, attracting visitors, and ensuring this dynamism translates into a direct and positive impact for local shops.
“
"Granada de Tiendas is an invitation to experience the city through its commerce, to stroll, to discover our establishments, and to understand that local commerce is part of Granada's identity and daily life."
One of the key elements of the day will be the artistic intervention in 42 commercial shop windows, where second-year Illustration students from the José Val del Omar School of Art and Design will contribute their creativity. Eight students will collaborate on this proposal, seeking to capture public attention and enhance the image of the establishments with innovative designs.
Additionally, two theatrical routes titled 'El Mercader de Sedas' will be offered, scheduled for 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM. Set in 16th-century Granada, these routes will explore emblematic places such as Plaza del Carmen, Bib-Rambla, Pasiegas, La Alcaicería, Corral del Carbón, and Plaza del Padre Suárez. The aim is to introduce participants to the city's rich commercial tradition and the historical role of silk in its development.
These visits, lasting approximately two hours, will include an official guide, actors, and technical support. They represent a cultural, tourist, and economic proposal designed to diversify the offerings on a date of high activity in the city, encouraging visitor flow in commercial areas and strengthening the local economic fabric. Places are limited, and registration can be done through the Descubriendo Granada website.
“
"What we seek is for the activity to translate into purchases, real movement in the streets, and opportunities for our merchants."
The atmosphere will be further enhanced with live flamenco performances between 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM in Plaza Bib-Rambla, Plaza de la Trinidad, and San Antón street, creating various focal points of attraction that invite exploration of the city center. The initiative also includes a competition organized by the Open Commercial Center, which will reward creativity in shop windows and social media participation, amplifying the visibility of local commerce. A promotional campaign on social media and digital mupis, along with the live broadcast of the 'Hoy por hoy Granada' program from Plaza Bib-Rambla on the 17th, will further boost the initiative's reach.
