A comprehensive study, presented by the Granada Confederation of Entrepreneurs and the Chamber of Commerce, has revealed significant shortcomings that are impeding the full development of the province. The document not only identifies these needs but also prioritizes them, emphasizing that the main challenge is not in recognizing what is missing, but in the failure to execute these initiatives.
Among the most urgent projects are improvements in railway connections, including the Mediterranean Corridor (Almería-Granada section), the Guadix-Baza-Lorca line, and the Loja bypass. The report also stresses the need for a direct Granada-Madrid connection via Jaén, the planning of the Granada-Motril train, as well as the expansion of the Metro and the completion of the metropolitan ring road.
Regarding water infrastructure, the report points to the importance of defining funding and executing pending sections of the Rules conduits, constructing wastewater treatment plants, and fully developing the irrigation systems in Baza. The Velillos dam and tertiary irrigation systems are also listed as priorities.
The energy and industrial sectors require the execution of the 2021-2030 electrical plans, institutional involvement in the IFMIF-DONES project, accelerating the growth of the PTS, and urbanizing industrial land in Motril. Finally, in territory, tourism, and the coast, demands include improving access to Sierra Nevada, expanding skiable areas, implementing breakwaters on the Costa Tropical, and promoting private sports mooring projects.
