The Genil Basin region is under a yellow alert between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM this Thursday. Highs of 39 degrees are expected, particularly in towns like Chauchina and Íllora.
Meteorology forecasts "very high" temperatures that will persist in the coming days. For the rest of the week, highs in the interior of the province will be around 35 degrees, reaching this figure on Friday in the capital and 37 in Loja. On the coast, temperatures will be around 30 degrees.
Looking towards the weekend, a similar situation is expected, although in the northern part of the province some towns could approach 40 degrees again, with forecasts of 38 in Iznalloz and Benalúa de las Villas, and 39 in Íllora.
Aemet has indicated that a new heatwave could begin starting Sunday, and that next week temperatures could locally exceed 40 degrees in some parts of the province's interior. It is still too early to specify the temporal and spatial extent of this heat episode.
