Adelante Andalucía, through its candidate Inma Manzano, has denounced the serious situation of institutional neglect, sewage spills, and floods affecting Granada's Poniente after this winter's storm system.
The candidate for the Andalusian Parliament for Adelante Andalucía in Granada, Inma Manzano, visited the hamlet of La Fábrica, in Loja, to verify the “serious situation” facing the Vega. According to Manzano, the area is suffering the consequences of the recent storm system and the “lack of response from administrations”.
During her visit, accompanied by local residents, Manzano highlighted problems such as “persistent flooding, wastewater discharges into the heart of the Vega, and deficiencies in water supply, with low pressure in homes”.
“
"Here we are seeing the direct consequences of institutional neglect. Crops are being irrigated with water contaminated by fecal waste, and this is a risk to public health and the future of our land."
The representative of Adelante Andalucía has held the Junta de Andalucía, governed by the Popular Party, responsible for the “lack of action”. She criticized that, after the storms, there were “photos and headlines”, but the problems persist once “the spotlights have moved on”.
She also highlighted the precarious sanitation situation in the area, where a clogged sewage pipe is causing accumulations of fecal water near homes, generating foul odors and health risks. She emphasized that this is not an isolated problem, but rather “years of institutional neglect” with deficient infrastructure and treatment plants that are not adequately sized or functioning as they should.
“
"Aid must arrive now and it must reach those who sustain this land: small farmers, day laborers, and residents. It cannot be that they are always left out."
Adelante Andalucía has demanded “immediate” solutions, including the urgent repair of sanitation infrastructure, measures against flooding, and guaranteed dignified water supply for the region's inhabitants and farmers.
