The president of the Almería Provincial Council, José Antonio García Alcaina, has visited Benitagla and Benizalón to promote development projects and analyze initiatives that foster growth and the permanence of their inhabitants.
In Benizalón, the president held a working meeting with the mayor, Alejandro Cid, and municipal representatives. They reviewed ongoing provincial projects and discussed future initiatives, including facilitating access to housing to attract new families and secure the town's future.
During the visit, Calvario street was inspected, recently remodeled through the Plan for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PFEA). The work included the renovation of telecommunications and supply networks, lighting, demolition and a new concrete slab with cobblestone finish, as well as the installation of safety railings.
In Benizalón, the site for the construction of a future pharmacy was also visited; a project for which tenders will be published soon. These actions are in addition to the continuous improvement of sanitation and supply networks, ensuring quality water.
García Alcaina highlighted Benizalón as an example of a municipality actively working on population retention, praising its focus on housing access, street improvements, and the future pharmacy. He noted that these actions, simple and aligned with local reality, are key to addressing the demographic challenge.
The visit concluded at the Church of Our Lady of Anguish, where the president laid a floral offering to the Virgen de la Cabeza.
In Benitagla, the president met with Mayor Juan Padilla to review works from provincial plans and the progress of the local bar-shop, now called Casa Tienda y Bar Restaurantes De Adela, managed by Manu and Tania. This establishment offers everything from churros to a full à la carte traditional cuisine menu.
The incorporation of Benitagla into the Roads Plan was discussed, with a 80,000 euro project to improve communication routes. García Alcaina emphasized the bar-shop as a fundamental service acting as a social meeting point and covering basic needs, while also attracting visitors.

"All these actions, which are already a reality or are underway, promote one of our most important objectives, which is to retain the population in smaller municipalities. Sometimes it's not about macro-projects but simple actions, in line with the reality of each territory, that help us successfully face the demographic challenge."
“
"it offers a fundamental service for all the residents of the municipality who, on the one hand, find a space for social gathering and life and, on the other, cover their most basic needs as they do not have to travel to another town when they need any essential product, serving as a pole of attraction for visitors on weekends."
