The incident occurred in the early afternoon as the vehicle was traveling through the area. Despite the dramatic nature of the accident, the driver suffered minor injuries and received medical attention from an ambulance dispatched to the scene.
The cargo, classified as dangerous goods though not flammable, led to the temporary closure and diversion of traffic. A Port Police patrol cordoned off the area and rerouted trucks and other vehicles via alternative routes, as reported by the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA).
Due to the nature of the cargo, a unit from the Algeciras fire department responded to the incident. Following an inspection of the tanker, it was confirmed that no leaks or escapes of the inert gas had occurred. Nevertheless, the entire load will be transferred to another tanker to ensure safety.
The road will remain closed to traffic with a security perimeter established while the transfer operations are underway.
