Up to half a thousand personnel are deployed in the province of Huelva to combat the forest fire that began this Thursday in the municipality of Niebla. According to Emergencias Andalucía, over 500 people are working in the area, with 130 belonging to the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) and 16 to the Brif school.
The operation includes nearly thirty aerial resources, such as light, semi-heavy, and heavy helicopters, as well as ground-attack and amphibious aircraft. This is complemented by 10 bulldozers, 94 vehicles, and three mobile units.
The acting delegate of the Spanish Government in Andalusia, Francisco Toscano, announced an increase in resources provided by the central government, raising the total number of UME military personnel to 250 and total resources to 100. Initially, around 130 UME personnel and about 60 resources were deployed, a figure that has now been reinforced.
In addition to the UME, over 115 members of the Civil Guard are involved in tasks such as road closures, citizen assistance, and security in evacuated areas. Toscano reported that 75 homes, mostly second residences, have been evacuated, affecting approximately 70 people.
The Spanish Government has also added amphibious vehicles and helicopters to combat the fire. This Saturday morning, a forest brigade joined to support the Plan Infoca. Toscano emphasized the importance of "institutional loyalty and unity" and offered support to extinguish the fire and ensure safety.
