The blaze, which started in the early afternoon on Monday, affected an area where plastic materials were stored, generating a column of "potentially toxic" smoke that alerted authorities and residents of the Huelva town. The rapid mobilization of resources was crucial in bringing the situation under control.
The Provincial Fire Consortium received the alert at 3:35 PM and initially deployed twelve personnel with seven trucks from the Almonte, Valverde del Camino, and San Juan del Puerto stations. Due to the fire's proximity to a forested area, the collaboration of the Infoca Plan was requested to prevent its spread, activating two Forest Fire Brigades (Brica), a group of firefighters, an Operations technician, an Environmental agent, a fire engine, and a heavy vehicle.
The fire's progression necessitated additional reinforcements, including trucks and a helicopter from Infoca, as well as municipal machinery, all working intensely in the affected zone. The total operation involved over 30 personnel, with participation from Firefighters, Infoca, Local Police, Civil Guard, and the Seprona unit.
As a precautionary measure, neighboring properties were evacuated, including both people and animals. The Local Police issued recommendations to residents, urging them to remain indoors, keep doors and windows closed, avoid outdoor ventilation, and use air conditioning in recirculation mode, in addition to staying away from the affected area and seeking information only through official channels.
Authorities have confirmed that the origin of the fire is under investigation, and a possible intentional cause is not being ruled out, adding a layer of complexity to the incident.
