The proposal, under consultation since July 22, aims to modify fiscal ordinances to improve vehicle rotation in the coastal area. According to the draft, parking fees would apply exclusively to non-registered visitors, while residents of Almonte, El Rocío, and Matalascañas would be exempt from direct payments.
To ensure local free parking, the local government plans to financially compensate the concessionaire through the municipal budget. This means the cost of the service will be borne by all taxpayers who pay the IBI, including owners of second homes who are not registered in the town.
The project follows several failed attempts in the municipal plenary session, where the opposition previously rejected the regulations due to a lack of negotiation. Currently, the administrative process is running parallel to judicial proceedings opened at the Court of First Instance of La Palma del Condado, which are investigating potential irregularities in the awarding of the parking contract, valued at over 47 million euros for a 30-year period.
