The Junta de Andalucía, through the Consejería de Educación, continues its efforts to repair educational centers damaged by storms. The territorial delegate for Educational Development in Huelva, Carlos Soriano, visited the Javier López School Residence in Valverde del Camino to oversee the ongoing works.
The intervention, part of the Obras Temporal Febrero 2026 program, has an investment of 131,627.30 euros. The work, which began on May 13, is scheduled for completion on September 13, aiming to have the school residence fully operational for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The repairs focus on the integral restoration of all the center's roofs, both sloped and flat, which were damaged by the storm. This includes demolition and installation of new roofing material for sloped roofs, and renewal of waterproofing for flat roofs. Damage to interior spaces and facades caused by leaks will also be repaired.
These works are part of the Plan Andalucía Actúa, designed to expedite the recovery of public infrastructure affected by meteorological events. Carlos Soriano highlighted the "good pace of execution" and stated that the residence will be "fully operational" at the beginning of the school year.
The delegate emphasized the Junta de Andalucía's priority to ensure all educational centers in the province start the 2026-2027 academic year under the best conditions of safety, functionality, and comfort. Continuous monitoring is in place to guarantee timely completion and safe, modern facilities.
Soriano also noted that this project is part of a broader investment strategy in Valverde del Camino, mobilizing nearly 730,000 euros for educational infrastructure, classroom digitalization, vocational training, and storm damage response, demonstrating the Andalusian government's commitment to public education in the municipality.
During the facility tour, the director of the Javier López School Residence, Jesús Llanes, thanked the Junta de Andalucía for the "significant investment effort" in the center this academic year, calling it a "historic investment." He also praised Carlos Soriano for his approachable manner and the Territorial Delegation's "swift response" to the center's needs.
Other notable actions in the locality include 143,256.10 euros for Climate Comfort to improve energy efficiency in eight schools, 113,952.57 euros for the 'Mejora tu Centro' program for repairs and equipment, 225,472.31 euros for Digital Classrooms, 43,041.02 euros for IT equipment, and 6,307 euros for Vocational Training at the IES Diego Angulo, specifically in the Cooking and Gastronomy cycle.
Furthermore, an investment of 25,000 euros will be made to repair the roof of the workshop at the IES Diego Angulo, separate from the current work at the Javier López School Residence.
Soriano concluded by stating that education is a priority for the Andalusian government, evidenced by actions aimed at providing students and educators with safer, more modern, and better-equipped spaces for present and future challenges, ensuring quality public education in Valverde del Camino.
