The measure responds to the magnitude of the damage suffered by the municipality, where the fire has affected between 90% and 95% of its approximately 12,500 hectares of municipal land. The fire, which was declared extinguished after 15 days of work and affected eleven municipalities, has had a particularly severe impact on Berrocal.
The consequences of the incident go beyond the loss of forest mass, directly impacting key sectors for the local economy such as livestock farming, beekeeping, forest exploitation, agriculture, and rural and nature tourism. The fire has destroyed pastures, vegetation, and resources, diminishing the productive capacity of various operations.
The funds granted by the Provincial Council, chaired by David Toscano, will be allocated to urgent actions. These include hiring personnel for recovery efforts, clearing debris, repairing roads, and conditioning municipal infrastructure. Needs related to livestock and beekeeping operations are also being considered.
The president of the provincial institution, David Toscano, communicated the decision to the mayor, Ángel Luis Romero, emphasizing the need to respond with exceptional measures to an equally exceptional situation. The Provincial Council will also provide technical and administrative support to the Town Hall to manage the numerous procedures arising from the fire.
A full-time person will be assigned to coordinate administrative actions and aid processing, while the Municipal Assistance area will designate a point of contact to centralize Berrocal's needs and coordinate the response from various provincial departments.
Toscano stressed the importance of addressing immediate needs and accompanying municipalities in a recovery process that will require time and the involvement of all administrations. The Provincial Council will continue to assess the situation to study further measures.
