The Civil Guard has concluded a series of operations against drug trafficking in the province of Huelva over the last month, resulting in the arrest of eight people and the seizure of over 2,250 marijuana plants. The operations took place in the municipalities of Gibraleón, Villablanca, and Ayamonte.
In Gibraleón, officers detected an unusual electricity consumption that led to the discovery of a house used as a plantation with 756 plants in an advanced flowering stage. Later, in a nearby area, an industrial warehouse dedicated to intensive production was located, where another 800 plants ready for harvest were found. This warehouse was equipped with ventilation systems, carbon filters, and a closed-circuit video surveillance system to detect police presence.
The second operation occurred in Villablanca, where four unoccupied properties were searched. These interventions resulted in the seizure of 695 marijuana plants, two kilograms of high-purity cocaine, 31 kilograms of harvested marijuana, and equipment for its processing and distribution.
Finally, in Ayamonte, during firefighting efforts for an agricultural fire, the Civil Guard discovered a hidden greenhouse containing 35 marijuana plants.
In addition to the plants and cocaine, three vehicles used for drug distribution and sophisticated surveillance systems and illegal electricity hookups were seized. The fraudulent electricity connections pose a fire risk and cause power outages for nearby residents.
The illegal connections to the electrical grid made to maintain these types of plantations generate disproportionate consumption that often leads to continuous supply cuts for residents in neighboring areas, as well as a high risk of fire due to electrical line overload.
The Civil Guard emphasizes the importance of citizen collaboration and provides the emergency number 062, the Alertcops mobile app, and anonymous channels through its website for citizens to report illicit activities.
