The Ayamonte City Council, through the Animal Welfare Department, reinforces the CER Project (Capture, Sterilization, and Return) to manage the 81 registered feline colonies in the municipality, promoting responsible coexistence.

The Ayamonte council continues with the CER Project, a key initiative for the well-being of community cats and harmony between citizens and animals. Currently, the municipality has 81 duly registered feline colonies, whose administration is carried out in collaboration with authorized caregivers.
This comprehensive project includes the capture of felines, their identification via microchip, sterilization, necessary veterinary care, and their subsequent return to their usual environment. Microchipped animals are registered in the Andalusian Animal Identification Registry (RAIA).
So far this year, 59 sterilizations have been performed, and the program remains active with new captures and veterinary procedures. The collaboration of veterinary clinics Acuario Ayamonte, Clínica Deli Ayamonte, and Clínica Veterinaria Ayamonte is fundamental to the success of this ethical management program.
The CER method is essential for controlling the reproduction of community cats, improving their health, and fostering adequate coexistence, in compliance with Law 7/2023 on animal protection and welfare.
The City Council calls for citizen collaboration, requesting respect for the cats, the colonies, and the authorized caregivers. It is reminded of the importance of not disturbing, harming, or relocating the animals, nor letting dogs roam near the feline colonies.
Furthermore, citizens are asked not to feed colony cats without authorization, as feeding must be controlled by authorized managers. The obligation not to abandon animals is recalled, and citizens are encouraged to report unregistered colonies to the City Council for study and management.
