The mayor of Sanlúcar, Carmen Álvarez, detailed the call aimed at reinforcing the council's staff. Of the 19 janitor positions, three will be filled through open competition for civil servants, and the remaining 16 through a competitive examination for permanent labor staff.
The duties of the janitors will include those typically associated with municipal buildings and facilities, as well as other related tasks assigned due to service needs. The laborers will be assigned to reinforce the solid urban waste collection service.
The municipal government, led by Carmen Álvarez, has faced opposition from unions representing municipal staff in previous negotiation meetings. According to the mayor, unions have shown outright opposition, either by not including the negotiation of these positions on the agenda or by not attending the scheduled sessions.
Carmen Álvarez lamented the “paralysis that the unions have caused in the creation of these public employment positions, which are so necessary given the staff shortage this City Council has suffered for years.”
The mayor explained the procedure for this public employment creation. First, the announcement must be published in the Provincial Official Gazette and subsequently in the State Official Gazette. Once this step is completed, a period will open for candidates to register through electronic means, mail, or any other method provided by Law 39/2015.
This process aligns with the commitment of Carmen Álvarez's government to restore public employment in the City Council, following years without selection processes to increase the municipal Public Employment Offer. “We want to offer a better service to the citizens, and therefore, we are committed to improving public employment,” stated the mayor, expressing her satisfaction with the announcement.
