The town of Rota has been the setting for the second phase of an Erasmus+ exchange program involving IES Arroyo Hondo and the German institute Reichswald Gymnasium. The official reception took place last Monday at the Luna Castle Municipal Palace, where municipal representatives welcomed the participants.
This European mobility program is a key part of the twinning between Rota and Ramstein-Miesenbach, a relationship that has been cultivated for years through various educational, cultural, and social initiatives. The main objective is to promote language learning, coexistence, and cultural enrichment among young people from different European countries.
The first stage of the exchange took place in March, when a group of 14 German Baccalaureate students from IES Arroyo Hondo traveled to Ramstein-Miesenbach to participate in educational and cultural activities. Now, from May 5th to 12th, German students are exploring Rota, staying with local families and getting to know the municipality and its surroundings.
During their stay, the young Germans will visit emblematic places such as the parish of Nuestra Señora de la O, the Corrales de Pesca, and the Rota Naval Base. They will also go on cultural excursions to other cities in the province, such as Cádiz, thus expanding their academic and personal experiences, and strengthening the bonds between both communities.
The Rota City Council has highlighted the importance of the involvement of educational centers, teachers, and families in organizing these initiatives, considering them a fundamental tool for fostering coexistence and mutual understanding among European students.
