The town of Rota played a prominent role in an international workshop on equality held in Morocco. A municipal representative presented the policies developed in the municipality in this area, highlighting the local administration's commitment to equity.
The participation was managed through the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity, an entity to which the Rota council is affiliated and which promotes cooperation initiatives in equality and local development.
This meeting is part of the project “Equality NOW. Women's leadership in municipal politics for the territorialization of equality”. This initiative continues the Learning Community of Local Public Equality Policies, which brings together municipal representatives from countries such as Morocco, Senegal, Mauritania, and Tunisia.
During the workshop, the municipal representative participated in training and advisory sessions, focused on strengthening female leadership in local politics. These activities aim to exchange experiences and tools to advance the implementation of public equality policies.
The municipal official detailed the evolution of equality policies in Spain and explained the model applied in Rota, emphasizing the crucial role of local administrations in implementing these policies in the territory. The municipal model is based on an integral and transversal approach, involving coordination between different areas of the City Council and the planning of prevention, awareness, and intervention actions in equality.
Among the highlighted initiatives are programs for the prevention of gender violence, partly funded by the State Pact, and educational actions aimed at co-education and the promotion of equality from an early age. Projects to encourage women's participation in social and community life, as well as initiatives related to work-life balance and co-responsibility, were also mentioned.
The intervention also addressed the work of multidisciplinary teams that assist victims of gender violence and the awareness and prevention actions developed in the municipality. This workshop facilitated the exchange of experiences among local political leaders from various countries, with the aim of identifying common strategies to overcome obstacles and strengthen female leadership in the institutional sphere.
