The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, recently visited the Rota Naval Base to assess firsthand the advancements in technological and infrastructural modernization. The primary objective is to enhance the capabilities of the Navy.
During her visit, the minister met with Vice Admiral José María Ibáñez Martín, the new admiral of the Arsenal de Cádiz, and other section chiefs. She also held a meeting with the Commander of the US Navy's Escort Group in Europe and visited Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 79, a United States Navy helicopter unit permanently deployed at the base.
“"The Rota Naval Base is a fundamental axis within the capabilities of the Navy and the Spanish Armed Forces."
The base stands out for the consolidation of the Navy's Specialization Center for Parts Manufacturing and Repair (CESFARE), a national benchmark in additive manufacturing that has already produced over 2,700 components. New aeronautical capabilities are being incorporated, such as the NH-90 helicopters and, soon, the MH-60R, which will improve aeronaval capacities.
Among future projects, the base is being prepared for the arrival of the new F-110 frigates, the first of which is scheduled for 2028. Significant investments are being made for the F-110 and NH-90 programs, including new hangars, simulators, and logistical warehouses, with a budget expected to exceed 250 million euros by 2030.
