The political group has brought a firm demand to the Senate Plenary for the Ministry of Culture, under its current head, to demonstrate a commitment that goes beyond mere words and translates into direct involvement and a concrete work schedule.
During her speech in the control session, a parliamentarian from the Cádiz town recalled that this tradition, with nearly two centuries of history, is a unique manifestation worldwide. She emphasized that it already holds the highest recognition from the Junta de Andalucía and has been declared an International Tourist Interest Festival.
“"The races are not only a bulwark of Andalusian tradition but also an indispensable economic engine for the entire region."
It was highlighted that the event attracts over 250,000 people in each edition, generating more than 712 million audience impacts and an economic valuation exceeding 6 million euros. The candidacy, it was argued, amply meets all the protection and promotion requirements demanded by UNESCO, also projecting an image of Spain that combines sporting excellence, history, and a privileged natural environment.
The popular representative criticized that, while Sanlúcar de Barrameda and the Junta de Andalucía have fulfilled their responsibilities, progress towards international recognition is stalled due to the lack of drive from the central Executive. She stressed that both the Royal Society of Horse Races and local and provincial administrations have already taken the necessary steps, with unanimous public support. It was warned that the project cannot succeed without the leadership of the Ministry of Culture, urging them not to miss the opportunity to definitively place Sanlúcar on the world map of intangible heritage.
