The Sanlúcar City Council approved in its ordinary session for July the conferral of the City's Gold Medal upon restaurateur Fernando Hermoso Marín, popularly known as Fernando Bigote. The proposal received unanimous support from all council members.
The mayor, Carmen Álvarez, highlighted that this recognition honors a 70-year career at the Casa Bigote restaurant, located in Bajo de Guía. According to the mayor, "his work, his close treatment, his hospitality, and his commitment to Sanlúcar's traditions, especially those linked to the maritime world, have made Fernando Bigote a benchmark for our city." Álvarez emphasized that this distinction comes during the current corporate term, after previous local governments had not paid homage to his figure.
The proposal, driven by the PP, has led the mayor to initiate the process for granting the Gold Medal, considering that Bigote "has been a magnificent ambassador for Sanlúcar and enjoys the affection and respect of both the people of Sanlúcar and our visitors." The mayor added that "he possesses an exemplary trajectory that is part of Sanlúcar's human heritage. He is part of our history, our identity, and our city's prestige."
Carmen Álvarez stated that this plenary agreement demonstrates that "proposals that are good for the city are approved, because we govern for everyone." She reiterated that it is a recognition of "an exceptional resident of Sanlúcar who is part of our history, our identity, and our city's prestige."
During the same plenary session, a plan for the review and repainting of pedestrian crossings and horizontal signage was unanimously approved. The mayor recalled that this plan is already underway and the work is visible in areas such as La Algaida, Bonanza, Las Piletas, the Paseo Marítimo, and the urban center.
Furthermore, Carmen Álvarez lamented the opposition's "inconsistency" in requesting measures to support local businesses, which the municipal government is already implementing, while they question the work of small local companies and the procedure of the firm contracted for transport services and dyeing for the carpets of the 2025 Patron Saint Festivities.
The mayor also reported on pending resurfacing works on eleven streets in La Algaida and five roads in the Las Dunas business park. She assured that there are no electoral motives, citing investments made over the last three years and future actions in neighborhoods such as El Palomar, Andalucía, Virgen del Mar, and de los Maestros, as well as in the Parque del Espíritu Santo, the senior residence, Sevilla street, Huerta de la Cruz square, and the new central awnings on Ancha and San Juan streets, among other projects from the Municipal Urban Planning Department.
Finally, Carmen Álvarez concluded her assessment of the plenary session by stating that "in the face of the opposition's noise, such as the disrespect in which the PSOE continues to be installed, the local government remains focused on management, working with responsibility and commitment for Sanlúcar."
