The CSIF union has reiterated its demand to the mayor of Sanlúcar de Barrameda to fulfill her electoral promise and municipalize the home care service, criticizing the recent extension of the private concession.

The Independent and Civil Servants Union (CSIF) of Cádiz has strongly urged the mayor of Sanlúcar de Barrameda to materialize her commitment to initiate the municipalization process of the home care service. The union recalls that this measure was a key electoral promise and part of her investiture speech in 2023. CSIF regrets that, in the last municipal plenary session, a one-year extension with the concessionary company was approved, thus maintaining the privatization that the mayor had pledged to eradicate.
In this context, representatives of the union and CSIF delegates at Arquisocial, the current service provider, met with members of the socialist group of the Sanlúcar City Council. During the meeting, the position of the PSOE was discussed, which voted against the contract extension in the plenary session and, in line with union demands, advocated for direct public management of home care.
From CSIF's perspective, the municipalization of the service would represent a substantial improvement, both in quantity and quality, in the care provided to dependent individuals and their families in the locality. Furthermore, the union emphasizes that the recovery of the service would directly benefit the female workers, who would see their working conditions improved, increasing their stability and rights compared to the current private company management.
Finally, the union organization considers the municipal government's change of stance inexplicable, especially considering the surplus in the accounts of the Sanlúcar de Barrameda City Council. CSIF concludes that there are no economic justifications for this step back from the commitment to transfer an essential service to direct management by the public administration.
