Cruz del Mar beach in Chipiona now features a state-of-the-art weather station that records real-time data on temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, maximum gusts, and precipitation. This information, accessible via the municipal website, is intended to enhance coastal safety and management.
The primary objective of this initiative, driven by the City Council, is to improve coastal safety. The collected data will enable beach managers, including surveillance and rescue services, to make more informed decisions regarding sea conditions and flag management, crucial factors for authorizing or restricting swimming.
The mayor of Chipiona, Luis Mario Aparcero, and the municipal delegate for Beaches, Eduardo Lorenzo, highlighted that the tool will facilitate more agile management of meteorological incidents. The information will also be available to Civil Protection and Local Police, strengthening emergency coordination.
The station will be integrated into the beach's public address system to issue warnings to users about significant weather changes. This measure is part of the municipal efforts to optimize coastal management resources in one of the town's busiest areas.
Data generated by the station is already publicly available on the City Council's official portal, offering useful information for the safety operation, residents, athletes, and visitors planning their day at the coast. The installation coincides with the start of the high season in the Cadiz coast, aiming to anticipate risks and improve response to adverse situations.
