The incident occurred on Saturday morning, around 9:30 AM, when an elderly person was attempting to withdraw money from an ATM at a bank in central Motril. After inserting their card and entering the PIN, they were accosted by two individuals who intimidated them and stole 900 euros that had been requested.
At that moment, the victim began to call for help. A National Police officer, who was off-duty but in a second activity status, heard the cries and witnessed one of the assailants attempting to flee. Without hesitation, the officer pursued the individual through the city center, managing to apprehend him shortly thereafter.
“"The swift intervention of a retired National Police officer was fundamental in arresting a man as the alleged perpetrator of a violent robbery."
The second person involved in the robbery, who allegedly took the money and escaped in a vehicle parked nearby, has been identified through subsequent investigation by the National Police and is currently wanted. Both individuals are known to authorities and have previous records for robberies involving intimidation.
