The astronomical phenomenon will reach its peak darkness around 8:38 PM, a time when both towns will be in full festive activity. Almuñécar's festivals run from August 9 to 15, while Motril's take place from August 7 to 15, placing the eclipse at the midpoint of both celebrations.
For a few minutes, the sunset light will change, offering several minutes of darkness instead of the usual orange hue. Although the darkness will not be total in the province of Granada, the phenomenon is expected to be visible and complement the festive atmosphere.
In Almuñécar, the traditional 'tiro del copo' (a festive event) is scheduled for 7:30 PM, an occasion that will be enhanced by the imminent arrival of the eclipse. As is customary during the fair, private security, Local Police, and the Civil Guard will be present.
In Motril, a higher attendance is expected on the beaches during the time of the eclipse. The Citizen Security area will activate a special deployment from 6:00 PM and recommends using alternative access routes via Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza avenue, Rambla de las Brujas, and the Playa Granada road to facilitate travel.
Both town councils have reinforced security measures, particularly for travel to and from the beaches. The fairgrounds will maintain their usual security deployment. Caution is advised while driving, and direct sun gazing should be avoided.
