The shortage of hotel places in Motril has become an obstacle to the development of its tourism potential. Mayor Luisa García Chamorro emphasized this deficiency during her participation in an event focused on the Costa Tropical, underscoring the city's competitive disadvantage against destinations like Almuñécar.
One of the main challenges for the Government team is to attract investments that allow for an increase in accommodation capacity. Motril aims to establish itself as a reference destination, and the expansion of hotel offerings is key to hosting the thousands of tourists who visit the town throughout the year, not just in summer.
New hotel realities are expected for the upcoming season. By the end of summer, the first stone is anticipated to be laid for a new hotel in the Playa Granada area. This project involves a complex of over 12,000 square meters with approximately 160 rooms, promoting a tourism model that stimulates the local economy.
Another significant project is the Hotel Ciudad, announced at Fitur 2022. If everything progresses as planned, the groundbreaking for this four-star hotel with 150 rooms could take place in the first quarter of 2027, strengthening the offer in the town center.
Furthermore, another hotel project for Playa Granada has been recently presented. The mayor stated that the city has most of the necessary infrastructure, and the council's next step is to attract and consolidate new hotel spaces that are greatly needed.
